Shots on target form ticker: Gameweek 20

Here are my shots on target and shots on target conceded form tickers for Gameweek 20.

The form tickers, which use data from the last eight games, produce some different results from the season tickers, which use data from the whole 2015-16 season. The 6GW Δ column shows the difference between the six-gameweek average (6GW ave.) on the form ticker and the season ticker.

The shots on target form ticker suggests mildly improved attacking prospects for Everton, Watford and Bournemouth, but a worse outlook for Arsenal, Manchester City and Swansea City. The shots on target conceded ticker show defensive improvement for Chelsea, Everton and Stoke City, but also reflects the Citizens’ poorer defensive displays without injured captain Vincent Kompany.

    Thanks, that’s extremely helpful.

The Arsenal fall confirms my instinct and as Özil’s goals are few and far between he looks a less good captain option than originally appeared. Kind of a fairly safe 7-10 point option.

Leicester’s improved values are encouraging, especially for Mahrez (as Vardy’s numbers are declining). Pens and more goal threat; I prefer him to Özil this week now.

City’s lower numbers are less worrying because they are without Aguero in effect. With Aguero fit and firing they will almost certainly improve. Question is whether Watford (a) is the game to expect that improvement to begin (also given that Aguero is still regaining match fitness). It could be, he had a hat-trick against Watford before. But I think 1 goal (and maybe an assist) for 7-11 points is more likely.

I expect Mahrez’ production to gradually decline as the season wears on but I now think he is probably the best captain this week and I’ll probably switch my choice.

    • Good luck Ruth! I’ve been burned too often in recent weeks by going against the herd on captain picks so I think I’m going to play it safe.

If Mahrez blanks and Ozil provides some returns you could be in a little trouble, but I agree Mahrez probably has the higher ceiling and if he works you could be in for a good jump up the rankings.

Thanks. Nailing the captain seems especially important right now with ranks so compressed.

One other thing: the marginal improvement in West Ham’s attacking xSoT is also encouraging given that Payet is still to return. He’s one to watch quite closely and could be my Ramsey replacement next week (though Mané also interests me). Both Mané and Payet look good value at 7.6.

    • If a team buys a significant number of players in the window, such that they significantly affect the way a team plays, then yes I expect we will see the numbers change in time. Any changes will be picked up quicker by a form ticker than a season ticker.

Loïc Rémy could really be one to watch out for. Palace only lack a sharp striker and he could score quite a few if he moved there and stayed fit. He has done well under Pardew before.

Villa is another possible destination and he’d be interesting there too, especially in view of a kind fixture run over the next 6 weeks including a possible DGW in GW25 (Norwich h and Stoke a) if Stoke reach the LC Final.
